Dealing with Success

As Christians, we are taught to strive for excellence in all that we do, to work hard and to aim high. Yet, when we achieve success, we may be faced with a new set of challenges – how to deal with success in a way that honors God and reflects the values that we hold dear.

Success can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it can bring a sense of accomplishment, joy, and fulfillment. On the other hand, it can lead to pride, selfishness, and a focus on material possessions and worldly accomplishments.

So, how can we deal with success in a way that aligns with our Christian values?

  1. Give credit to God: When we achieve success, it’s important to remember that all good things come from God. We should give thanks to Him for the opportunities, talents, and resources that we have been given. We should also recognize that our success is not solely our own doing, but is the result of God’s grace and guidance in our lives.
  2. Remain humble: Success can be a breeding ground for pride, but as Christians, we are called to be humble and to put others before ourselves. We should remember that our success is not a measure of our worth as a person, and that we are no better than anyone else. We should strive to use our success to help others, rather than to elevate ourselves.
  3. Keep a Kingdom perspective: It’s easy to get caught up in the pursuit of success and to lose sight of the bigger picture. As Christians, we should keep a Kingdom perspective – that is, we should focus on what matters most in God’s eyes. We should prioritize our relationship with God and with others, and use our success as a means of serving His purposes.
  4. Avoid greed: Success can also lead to a desire for more, for bigger and better things. We should guard against the temptation to be greedy or to hoard our success for ourselves. Instead, we should be generous with what we have been given, and use our success to help others in need.
  5. Remain rooted in faith: Finally, it’s important to remember that success is fleeting. We should not base our identity or our happiness on our accomplishments, but on our relationship with God. We should remain rooted in our faith, and trust in God’s plan for our lives, even when success seems elusive or fleeting.

Dealing with success in a Christian way is not always easy, but by remaining humble, giving credit to God, keeping a Kingdom perspective, avoiding greed, and remaining rooted in faith, we can honor God in all that we do, and use our success as a means of serving His purposes.
